The Honda Rebel was first introduced by the motorcycle manufacturer in 1985. Hoping to catch on with the young and hip MTV generation, the simple motorcycle had the aesthetics of a cruiser, but none of the power, weight or expense.
The Rebel was used by the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia in the early 1980s as an option to the Vespas they had been riding, but by the mid-2000s, the department swapped out for Harley-Davidson Sportsters, citing a need for more power, durability and visibility.
However, the Honda Rebel became a favorite with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) for its ease of operation, low ccs (234) and light weight. An easy motorcycle for most to learn on, the Rebel is also a great commuter with excellent MPG; around fifty-two to sixty-two miles!
With its low seat height (26.6 inches), no-frills operation, easy maneuverability, great gas mileage and cruiser style, the Honda Rebel 250 makes a perfect first bike.
