The Triumph Speedmaster was completely redesigned for 2018 and when it made its debut, enthusiasts were happy to see it again after a year-long absence from the manufacturer’s line-up.
While the Speedmaster shares many characteristics with the Bonneville Bobber, it uncharacteristically took a step away from the bobber category by adding more instead of taking bits away. The 2018 Speedmaster is a lightweight cruiser with pullback bars, forward controls and a larger, 3.2-gallon tank that can keep the rider on the road without fuel stops for up to 160 miles.
The Speedmaster has a a powerful, liquid-cooled High Torque 1200cc parallel twin engine; a Kayaba fork with cartridge damping and a preload adjustable single rear shock. Braking is handled by Brembo in front and Nissin in the rear and ABS is standard. Single button cruise control is also standard and the Speedmaster also has switchable traction control, throttle-by-wire with two riding modes (Road and Rain) and offers riders fully adjustable brake and clutch levers as well as easy-pull clutch assist. The bike rolls on nice 16-inch wheels wrapped in Avon AV72 Cobra tires.
The Speedmaster has a comfortable saddle with a pillion seat and grab rail for two-up riding, but both are easily removed if you want to go solo. The bike can also accommodate luggage, making it a great choice for a weekend getaway.
